Acumen Nation - Anticore

Acumen Nation - Anticore

Aiming to bombard the listener with electronic, industrial-strength insanity, Acumen Nation may be challenging for many metalheads. It’s fair to say that this band has admirable intentions in their futuristic-sounding anti-politic, but the band’s nose-turning at rules may be too progressive for some.

Fans of Rammstein and The Prodigy will certainly go for tracks like the ultra-grooving “Black Sun Hole” and “The Blind Pig,” which sounds like an ass-kicking from halfway across the galaxy. Vocally, Jason Novak could be a bit stronger at times. He’ll tear away at a vicious tongue-lashing, then slip a bit when he changes his voices around. Most of the time, he delivers a strong presence as frontman, especially on “Day Care,” where Novak takes on a personality sent straight from the mothership.

A lot of people are going to think of Dope when they hear this record, but this group’s head is in a completely different place. For what it is, it’s just slightly above average. There’s an audience for this type of music, but the political bent of the lyrics will keep this music from reaching those most into the style. At worst, you’re taking a chance on this, at best – you may discover a new sound or two along the ride.
